We’re absolutely obsessed with Christian Dior’s current foray into the film noir genre. The S/S ’10 trenches, lingerie and finger-waved curls left us positively swooning in Paris, and their online mini film The Lady Noire Affair, produced earlier this year, had us totally gripped from the start. Chic, sultry and sexy, the six-minute black-and-white clip directed by Olivier Dahan features the beautiful Marion Cotillard as a femme fatale in a Hitchcock-esque thriller, with some fabulous Dior product placement thrown in – including, most importantly, great close-ups of the iconic Lady Dior handbag. The ad campaign to run alongside the film was shot by Annie Leibovitz and shows Marion as the Lady Rouge in red Dior from head to toe, as well as in the black garb from her role in the film. At the time, John Galliano said: 'We wanted to capture the glamour, the intrigue, the heroine and the mysterious allure that radiates around her… Marion has brought the Dior woman to life. She is incredible' High praise indeed!
So, we’re excited to hear the next instalment of the Lady Dior film saga is already in the pipeline. Mr Galliano is already out in Shanghai filming with Marion and has even enlisted filmmaker David Lynch (of The Elephant Man and Blue Velvet fame) to direct! This isn’t the first time such an epic director has lent his talent to the fashion biz. Baz Luhrmann, the man behind Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, created the dreamy and romantic advert starring Nicole Kidman for Chanel No.5, and Michael May, who directed Transformers, produced this year’s Victoria’s Secret Christmas ad, setting the likes of Miranda Kerr to a backdrop of explosions, motorcycles and heavy metal music (okay, perhaps not quite as “luxury” as Baz and Chanel, but whatever…)
The Lady Noire Affair left us on a bit of a cliff hanger (literally for Marion as she was scaling the Eiffel Tower…), but fear not, this next movie will carry on where the first left off. In the mean time, why not re-acquaint yourself with the stunning Chapter One here. [WWD]
