Of all the parties in all celebsville, in all fashiondom, in all the world, we reckon nothing, absolutely nothing, could top this one. On Monday night, Sonia Rykiel celebrated the launch of her lingerie collection for H&M (which drops in 1,500 H&M stores on Saturday, eek!) with a party at Paris’s Grand Palais that was nothing short of jaw-droppingly spectacular.
Imagine an Alice in Wonderland-esque fair ground with trees made of balloons, giant model rabbits, a ferris wheel, swings (yes, swings), huge mushrooms, baton-twirling majorettes, all set to an oh-so-Swedish Abba soundtrack (a great nod to H&M’s roots there) and a backdrop of re-creations of iconic French monuments including the Champs-Élysées and a dazzling light-adorned Eiffel Tower. Wow.
And if, for a second, you forgot the whole point of the launch (after all, who wouldn’t with flocks of geese in attendance… seriously) you only had to look around for reminders. Mannequins riding the ferris wheel clad in the Sonia Rykiel pour H&M lingerie, models on the swings sporting the range, girls pedalling on bicycles showing off Sonia’s forthcoming knitwear range for the high-street store, and even a fierce Lily Cole riding a giant horse’s head through a mock L’Arc de Triomphe… wearing pieces from the collection, naturellemente. The star-studded 2000-strong guestlist, including Kate Bosworth, Eva Herzigova, Nadja Auermann, and Jean Paul Gaultier (check out our best-dressed from the party here), could only watch on in amazement. Even JPG was lost for words, only managing to muster a simple, “Sublime”. Our sentiments exactement, Jean Paul. [Style.com]
