Dolce & Gabbana turn film stars!

We were already excited about the film NINE (premiering in Leicester Square tonight!) A musical about the fashion industry, you say? We’re there! The movie is adapted from the hit Broadway show and stars Kate Hudson (as a fashion journalist), Judi Dench (as a costume designer) Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren …and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana! Yes! The Italian designers whose collections have always taken inspiration from the stars of the silver screen (and been worn by them too) are finally going to be film stars themselves!

Our source at Dolce tells Grazia that the pair flew to Rome in January this year to film their cameo roles. They appear in the opening scenes of the film, walking beside actor Daniel Day-Lewis dressed as Catholic priests (we know, it’s just too good to be true). NINE takes inspiration from Fellini’s legendary movie "8 1/2"….

The designers are clearly thrilled about their Hollywood experience saying ‘We wanted so much to be part of this project! Federico Fellini has always been one of our greatest sources of inspiration, one of the most important Italian directors. For us, being part of a movie inspired by the work of the maestro is like a dream come true. [Director] Rob Marshall did an amazing work and the cast is amazing! He was able to put together the most beautiful and talented actresses of various generations and great actors. We couldn't be more happy to be chosen, even if for a short appearance".

And apparently, this isn’t even the pair’s first on-screen appearance.. Dolce & Gabbana previously appeared in Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore’s movie L’uomo delle stelle (the Starmaker) playing ‘Peasant On Bus’ and ‘Photographer’ respectively…

And we have a funny feeling, NINE won’t be their last movie either...
