This time of year, after seeing what pieces the designers are creating for S/S ’10, the next thing we’re always dying to find out is who will front their campaigns. And no designer intrigues us more in her choices than Miuccia Prada, whose new face for spring has just been revealed as Lithuanian model Rasa Zukauskaite. The previously little-known (and now guaranteed to go stellar) 18-year-old walked for Prada in Milan this year, as well as Alberta Ferretti, Missoni and Moschino, and has also previously hit the runway for Balenciaga, so has racked up a pretty impressive CV in a short space of time.
Prada is always a really interesting one in its model choices, having used names including Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista in the past, as well as launcing the careers of relatively unknown girls. New face of Louis Vuitton, Lara Stone came into the spotlight after closing Prada's S/S ’08 show, and Ukraine-born model Daria Werbowy made her name in 2003 in the first of several Prada campaigns – remember that gorgeous advert with her running through the streets of
'Prada are always cool, quirky and a little bit ahead of the beat with their campaigns, while also very chic and not in-your-face,' explains Grazia’s beauty director Annabel Jones. 'They choose the right girl so you always know a Prada ad, but for the ad itself and not necessarily the model. They don’t go for those big Glamazon types. I’d say they almost started that trend for using Eastern European girls who are a bit more subtle.'
Well, with such a mahoosive campaign now in the pipeline, Rasa is definitely further proof that Eastern European models are really holding their own in the industry – just think Natalia Vodianova, Natasha Poly et al. Ooh we just love a new face coming on to the scene and this is one we'll sure be watching out for. [Sassy Bella]
