Jewellery at Haute Couture FW!

It’s usually Oscar night when jewellery has its real time in the spotlight. Who’s wearing what on the red carpet (simple statement pieces at the 2009 ceremony, FYI…) and who’s been borrowing from the major jewellery labels keep us just as hooked as the dresses and beauty looks. But now this is all about to change.

The Fédération Française de la Couture has just announced that the forthcoming Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris will showcase jewellery as well as fashion! 'This union of two exceptional "savoir-faire" will create a real luxury week,' it says of the move, which will see the final day of the January event dedicated to couture jewellery brands including Boucheron, Cartier, Chanel Joaillerie, Christian Dior Joailleire, Van Cleef & Arpels and Mellerio dits Meller. Oh la la!

The whole buzz with couture is over its exclusivity and extravagance. Iconic names such as Christian Dior, Chanel, Maison Martin Margiela, Valentino and Givenchy bring one-of-a-kind, custom-made creations to the catwalk – we’re still reeling over Jean Paul Gaultier's weird and wonderful futuristic A/W ’09 pieces – investing hundreds of hours of craftsmanship into one item that will sell for anywhere between £10,000 and £100,000. The highest spenders will be at this fashion week so it’s the perfect place for the most luxurious jewellery companies to show-off their work and meet their customers. Just imagining what will now be shown is already giving us excited fashion butterflies. One word: amazing.
