When Emma Watson was spotted in the audience of a New York baseball game this weekend, the American press went into a frenzy of speculation about her date – 'handsome Spanish rock star Rafael Cebrián' (apparently the drummer with the band The Monomes, but also a fellow student of Watson’s at Brown). But we were much more interested in the other man she was with – Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati.
Watson’s English rose beauty is now so synonymous with British trench label Burberry that it’s easy to forget there were a couple of seasons when the squillionaire teenage actress sat on the front row of a number of fashion shows. Only last autumn, she attended Paris Fashion Week shows by Chanel, Christian Dior, Giambattista Valli… and Yves Saint Laurent. Back then, Watson was being referred to as the new ‘Chanel muse’; earlier in 2008, she appeared on the red carpet at various international Harry Potter premieres around the world in a series of Chanel outfits. She was rumoured to be taking over from Keira Knightley as the face of Chanel fragrance, and Karl Lagerfeld even photographed her for a fashion shoot in Crash magazine. But it was with British luxury label Burberry that Watson finally signed a modeling contract, earlier this year.
So why was the actress-turned-model-turned-student spending time with Pilati? Of course, it could have just been two old friends meeting up while the designer was in town. But we were wondering if Pilati was doing some potential-model-wooing? An international designer flying into town to see you AND a handsome Spanish drummer taking you out? Watson leads a charmed life. [NYPost]
