Hmmm how to make a style statement? This is one question the Grazia Daily team spend many an hour pondering (in between working manically, natch). Perhaps show a little shoulder, maybe pour your curves into a Herve Leger number or why not just go Gaga? These lovely ladies showed us how it’s done when they worked the red carpet last night. But what do YOU think? Eeek or chic?
Sometimes the only thing an amazing look requires is an unfussy but oh-so-sexy shoulder flash. For a perfect parade of the trend just look to these A-List ladies who all donned asymmetric frocks while walking the red carpet last night, proving that one shoulder is better than two when you want to make a simple yet seductive style statement. At the International Emmy Awards, Alexa Chung showed how to bring a funky edge to the feminine look with patent ankle boots and messy braids while Cate Blanchett stuck to a classic but striking Armani Privé S/S '10 silhouette during a dinner in her honour hosted by Roberta Armani. We’re loving that bold indigo colour choice and the elegant ruched detailing at the hip accented by a floor length tassle. Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow was in our fair city of London for the Dean Street Townhouse launch and looked effortlessly chic in her slouchy satin tunic teamed with opaque tights and matching grey nails. By keeping the accessories to a minimum, all three allow the neckline to hold the fashion focus. Perfection!
For the Christmas Lighting of her London store, Stella McCartney kept it simply stylish in a pair of black treggings and v-neck tee but with that sexy lace panel and curve-creating structured jacket of boxy proportions, the designer dresses it up a notch. Her no-fuss bun is the perfect balance for the dramatic jacket too. Making another well-attired appearance, this time to promote her new album Rated R in Manhattan, Rihanna similarly rocked head-to-toe noir but kept it streamlined in a draped jumpsuit, relying on her metallic origami-style shoes by Diego Dolcini to make an impact. Also on the promotional bandwagon was Lady Gaga in a minimal-skin-exposed shocker. The sartorial star arrived in Los Angeles dressed in a funeral director-esque outfit but kept it creative by taking the oversized shoulder trend to yet another extreme. Talk about '80s power dressing!
Claire Danes’ red carpet moments just get better and better. For the New York screening of her latest flick Me And Orson Welles, the actress looked simply stunning in a delightful ensemble consisting of a clinging Herve Leger minidress and colour-popping pink Sergio Rossi Cruise '10 pumps. Kanye’s missus Amber Rose joined Claire on the red carpet and surprised us with her lady-like look courtesy of a Dolce & Gabbana frock but with the boudoir-inspired bustier and waist-clinching skirt, she stays true to her signature sass. Also bringing the glamour in gold was model and all round ‘It’ girl Lydia Hearst who wore a strapless structured D&G number made with sumptuous brocade fabric and Jimmy Choo peep toe heels fit for a princess. Just delightful daahling!
