You can always count on a super-duper music awards show to bring out a flock of stars flaunting their best gowns and this weekend’s 37th Annual American Music Awards did just that. Hurrah! With some spectacular stand outs from our favourite divas including Rihanna and J-Lo as well as a dash of Hollywood glamour courtesy of Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson, the style watchers among us were in for quite a treat. So without further ado, we bring you the best frocks from this weekend’s hottest red carpet event. Don't forget to let your opinion known below and remember the best comments will be printed in next week’s Grazia!
Wowser! Rihanna brought her usual flair of individuality to the proceedings with this fabulous structured gown from Marchesa's Spring/Summer 2010 collection complete with rosette laser cut outs. Thanks to that slick of red eyeliner we’ve been raving about, she funks it up another notch but we can't help being reminded of a paper doilie... Leona Lewis also chose a dramatic look while continuing her Vivienne Westwood love-in. With a waist clinching corset and thigh-skimming hemline, this outfit reminds us that she’s fast becoming a fierce diva extraordinaire. But we reckon it’s time she mixed it up a bit, especially as this is the very same PVC basque that she donned for the EMAs last month. Dress deja vu much?
How does Kate Hudson do it? The eternally youthful star pulled off yet another sexy sparkler but caused quite the stir when the metallic mesh nearly revealed a little more than intended... Another daring dress arrived courtesy of Kristen Bell and although we’re not prone to condoning boob tubes - especially when paired with a mini - the high-waist of the draped Christian Cota skirt with the matching strapless top makes it acceptable in a Grecian-style way. Just.
Jewel encrusted + cobalt blue + origami pleats = surefire attention grabber! Alicia Keys pulled out all the stops in this strapless Giorgio Armani mini-dress worn over a pair of Swarovski crystal shorts. Similarly, Shakira upped the sass when she struck a pose in this teenie weenie yellow number by Versace - those sharp silver lines and matching metallic heels are the perfect edge. And how great to see a blonde bravely bringing on the brights!
Nicole Kidman attended the shindig in support of hubby Keith Urban and added a touch of Hollywood glamour courtesy of a beautiful Balenciaga gown with pink and taupe tiers. Also opting for elegance was Fergie who donned a floor-length frock covered in triangular paillettes and Swarovski crystals by Armani Privé. We’re loving the asymmetrical zipper detailing for a quirky twist and that dramatic front slit is the perfect showcase for her toned pins.
Although many were left aghast after her tumble on stage, Team Grazia was mightily impressed not only with Jennifer Lopez’s fierce hair do, but also by the numerous outfits she decided to donn for the occasion. Looking foxy at 40,
J-Lo Lola made the most of her killer curves, pouring them into a Gucci S/S '10 white cut-out frock complemented by matching accessories, followed by an ultra-feminine nude number adorned with feathers. And the comeback is complete!
