If you don’t quite get what Victoria’s Secret all about, don’t worry because that will soon all change when the lingerie brand open a store in the UK in 2010. But it may be a mystery to you as to why America has got itself all in a tizz over a fashion show. For weeks now websites have leaked information and ‘spoilers’ about new angels, presenters and a day-by-day account of Heidi Klum’s post-pregnancy figure and whether or not she’d be in attendance. And to be honest we don’t really understand it all either, but we’re happy to be swept up in the moment (call us sheep if you like). Finally it was filmed last night on a big glittery v-shaped stage, and they didn’t disappoint with decadence, angels, the FROW or Heidi Klum. This year’s themes were Star Trooper, All Aboard, Pink Planet, Enchanted Forest and Romantic Journey – sounds amazing doesn’t it? And it gets better; ‘We came up with the idea of this girl who lands from outer space in Paris,’ explained the stylist, Charlotte Stockdale. ‘She gets on a train that comes to a halt in Pinkland, where pink girls get on and off. Then they go into this fairy-tale forest and little lady bugs and butterflies land on them and vines grow up on their clothes. Then, there’s Tick-Tock Time; the wings in this section are based on clocks — there’s one modeled after a pocket watch with metallic feathers. And she ends up in this regal realm of princess-ness, where the wings have Swarovski jewels and peacock feathers.’
Rosie Huntington Whitely, Chanel Iman (who threw her bag into the audience at one point) and Miranda Kerr all walked, but the surprise was Anja Rubik, who was persuaded to do it by friends and said ‘I usually never do underwear shows, but this is so much fun, so relaxed, so cool, and I heard the Black Eyed Peas were going to be performing. It’s in New York and I live in New York, so I decided to do it! It’s pretty crazy.’
As for Heidi, she didn’t let her fans down and appeared on the VS catwalk for the twelfth time, a mere four weeks after giving birth; ‘I’m definitely one of the heaviest of the 30 girls in the show. And I still have 20lbs to go,’ she said. ‘But why not? I like my outfit. I like the way it looks on me.’ Go Heidi!
Meanwhile, if you still need further proof as to why you should take a lingerie show seriously, Alexander Wang, Zac Posen and Carine Roitfeld were all front row. So there! [Fashionologie]
