Whether you’re one for bringing the brights with some colour popping action or you’re a play-it-safe lady, the movers and shakers of the fashion world were covering all bases last night. But who gets your vote in the sartorial stakes? Let us know below...
Bright and bold
If you’re tired of dull autumn palettes and want to add some punch to your winter wardrobe, all you need is a pop of colour. And who better to show you how it’s done than fashion guru and super-duper model, Claudia Schiffer. She brought some vibrancy to the launch of the new Alberta Ferretti fragrance yesterday with a four-tone colour block frock from the designer's Autumn/Winter '09 collection. We’re particularly loving the burnt orange sash which accents her waist and those glossy locks, and the nude yoke for an added dose of femininity. What a welcome change after all the LBDs we’ve spotted gracing the red carpet recently. Also channeling the trend was Olivia Palermo who looked radiant thanks to a beautiful embroidered waistcoat which she clinched with a thin belt and wore under a flattering cardie to frame the vivid golden hue. Follow her lead and keep the rest of your outfit simple to avoid looking like a Chinese lantern!
Amidst all the hoopla for her latest flick, Kristen Stewart is continuing her personal style parade during the Twilight transatlantic tour. So far we’ve seen her rocking a D&G cocktail dress followed by an edgy Proenza Schouler outfit after looking a little less than comfortable in that girly J Mendel gown. And yesterday she was back to her vampy best when she continued to up the fashion ante in an Elizabeth and James minidress teamed with blood-red heels. Next up, the actress stuck to her favourite dark colour palette courtesy of a Balenciaga number straight from the spring/summer 2010 catwalk for the Spanish premiere. She’s clearly loving transparent details to bring some sheer sexiness to her looks – just check out the see-through panels on her organza top and pleated skirt to flash some serious flesh. Risque flashes aside, it’s great to see her pushing the envelope and making a statement instead of sticking to the playing-it-safe attitude of most young starlets. Here’s hoping she keeps up the good work.
If you’re after some simple chic, you can always count on a shift dress. Step forward Eva Mendes who wore a crisp Calvin Klein version paired with some fail-safe black pumps when she opened a new CK store in Milan last night. Low-maintenance but high-fashion, and top marks for the uber-sophistication by keeping the accessories to a minimum. Staying true to her fashion onslaught, Anna Friel also opted for a sheath but with those structured shoulders and strappy heels, she knows how to turn it from drab to glam.
