When Jean Paul Gaultier sent his models out onto the A/W ’09 Hermès catwalk, the theme of the clothes was strong, feminine and definitive 1930s explorer, with hats, khakis, goggles and powerful struts galore. The crisp designs with their folds, textures and muted colours evoked that idea of the aviation style of the '30s, which is no surprise when you learn that Amelia Earhart was JPG’s inspiration for the collection.
The iconic adventurer who mysteriously disappeared in 1937 during a one-woman flight around the world, which would have been the first time this had been done by anyone, is being played by Hilary Swank in a new film which is out today. And while we’re excited to see Amelia for the film’s sake, the thing we are most in LOVE with is the insanely gorgeous fashion Hilary is sporting on screen. From sumptuous gowns to fabulous furs and a cracking pilot’s outfit, the character’s wardrobe conveys the image of Amelia perfectly and Hilary looks every inch the part. Can anyone say ‘Oscar’?
If you’re loving this look too, feast your eyes on this great pilot jacket by Acne. As seen on the likes of Alexa Chung, it’s the perfect way to bring out your aviator side this winter. Asos also do an amazing version here. Plus check out the trailer for Amelia and our gallery of the favourite outfits from the film below. Genius!
