Sequinned frocks have always been a top choice for stars hoping to captivate on the red carpet but we’ve been dazzled by more than ever recently. Anna Friel’s LBD with pretty paillettes is the perfect party cocktail dress while Alesha Dixon positively twinkled in her purple number, although those floral embellishments are a tad overkill. But it’s not always a glittering dress you need for some sparkle, especially if you’re going for glam without being ostentatious. Just check out Lauren Conrad who worked her trademark L.A laid-back vibe by bringing a touch of glitz to her simple shift and Topshop heels with a shimmering Joie Arietta jacket when she stepped out in Hollywood. Thumbs up for those must-have jade nails too.
Speaking of all things sparkling, Taylor Swift was back to her razzle-dazzle best in this strapless Reem Acra gown fit for a princess when she arrived at the CMA Awards. And what an appropriate choice it was for the night’s golden girl as the singer scooped a total of four awards. Nicole Kidman joined Taylor on the red carpet to support her rocker boyf and looked more youthful than she has for a while in this floor-sweeping magenta frock by her stylist L’Wren Scott that clung to her curves and gave her quite a, ehem, unexpected boost! Kimberly Walsh also choose a daring neckline and yet still managed to look super sweet in a snow coloured halter-neck with jewel embellishments and uber-glossy locks. In contrast, Pixie Lott went for a raven-black frock with Grecian-esque draping and a dash of gold to create quite the regal effect. But with another appearance of those neon nails, she keeps the look funky.
The cool kids
But if you’re bored by fancy red carpet events where the stars stick to safe gowns, then check out these antidotes to cautious dressing. First up is Kristen Stewart who stuck to her signature edgy chic thanks to this Proenza Schouler ensemble when she attended the UK premiere of Twilight New Moon. We’re loving the aqua tie-dye top with reptile-inspired print, and the feathered skirt with splashes of lime - the colour of next season – brings a dose of femininity. As the designers said after their Spring/Summer 2010 show, they were inspired by “surfing and skating” and Kristen is the ideal embodiment of the fun, fresh collection. And she looks much more comfortable in comparison to her awkwardness caused by the too-cute look she donned in Paris.
Also hitting the London tiles was Kate Moss and Lily Allen who were celebrating the supermodel’s brother’s birthday looking rather matchy-matchy. Together, they nailed the goth-rock look effortlessly: Kate donned a furry jacket teamed with lace-up leggings and Lily rocked a crocheted cardigan and her never-seen-without thigh-high boots that she wore with a silky white top to soften the outfit. We reckon the BFFs have been sharing a few fashion tips... Also working the Moss-like casual cool was model of the moment, Dree Hemingway who told Graziadaily that she has a fashion obsession for OTK boots and all things slouchy. And when you look this good working the trends, we say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
