At the Decoration Design Awards, Erin O’Connor proved that for some fast fashion, all you need is a statement piece. Worn with simple black trousers and a feminine top, her fabulous collarless jacket with sharp shoulders and ruffle detailing does all the talking. And with those with rolled up sleeves and hands in pockets, Erin is the ideal embodiment of Brit cool. Speaking of which, Alexa Chung is always a breath of fresh British air and when she arrived at the Armani Exchange party dressed in a tailored jacket and a preppy white shirt tucked into her denim shorts, it’s clear to see why. Her chain Chanel bag and the bows on her toes add instant elegance and we’re loving her polka-dot neck tie – forget brooches, this is all you need for a touch of kooky cool.
While Alexa worked a pair of casual cut-offs, Maggie Gyllenhaal opted for some sophisticated shorts when she hosted the Louis Vuitton 2010 Cruise Collection launch in New York yesterday. The high-waist of the pair by – you guessed it – Louis Vuitton is ever-so flattering and, when teamed with black tights and heels, the actress’s legs look never-ending but the sexiness is kept to a suitable minimum. Very tasteful, very glam. In contrast is Lady G. Not content with being the first to wear those McQueen shoes, the singer clearly feels the need to up the shock factor with her quirky fashion onslaught in this military-esque all-in-one spilling out of a pair of OTK PVC boots, complete with a flesh-flashing neckline. And although we have to admit that the colour and style is an improvement on Fearne Cotton’s bonkers boiler suit choice at the weekend, we reckon she’s taken army chic one step too far. No surprises there then.
By the looks of it, Nicole Kidman and Courteney Cox have been taking a dose of Demi Moore’s age-defying potion. The actresses upped the chic ante and looked every inch the sexy sirens in their red numbers. At the BMI Awards, a positively statuesque Nicole shone in her strapless Prada frock with a velvet ribbon clinching her waist and more pretty bow detailing that we’ve spotted on the hottest stars recently. Courteney also choose a vibrant crimson dress that she paired with strappy nude heels when filming Cougar Town. We’re guessing the grey hoodie flung over the top isn’t part of the look, so we’ll let her off.
At the other end of the scale, these up-and-coming starlets were white hot when they hit the red carpet. Taylor Swift played up to her innocent persona with a pretty Carmen Marc Valvo frock with cascading detailing at the front while Kristen Stewart proved that even a hardcore rock chick can work some white when she wore this strapless J Mendel dress with sexy sweetheart neckline and asymmetrical draping during her promotional duties for New Moon in Paris. Although she does look a tad uncomfortable in those Sergio Rossi heels rather than her trademark Converse, we wonder if she'll keep the cuteness up when she hits London tonight...
