Last night’s best dressed: Rihanna’s style marathon

10 November 2009

Rihanna gave Katy ‘12 outfits’ Perry a run for her fashion cred when she rocked no less than four fabulous outfits yesterday, mastering the mix of both edgy-chic and red-carpet polish to perfection. The star shifted in style as she darted about the city, from an appearance on It’s On With Alexa Chung to picking up an award at a glitzy ceremony alongside a crop of Hollywood A-listers. So if you needed any more reason to be highly envious of Rihanna’s wardrobe, check out our homage to the style chameleon and let us know which look gets your vote...

Rihanna began her style marathon when she arrived in New York looking every inch the hardcore rocker chick. Leather jacket? Check. Biker boots? Check. Skin-tight treggings? Check check check! But boy did she have a mega metamorphosis up her very fashionable sleeve...

Appearing on Alexa Chung’s MTV show, Rihanna admitted, 'Nothing I wear is comfortable besides my underwear. The shoes, the clothes are pretty uncomfortable.' That’s sheer sartorial dedication for you. She worked her trademark fierce androgynous vibe by channelling Grace Jones in this Alexander McQueen asymmetric dress and wore the cowl neck as an on-trend snood. And she's in good company with this number...

Cheryl cole

Ring any bells? Fellow songstress Cheryl Cole wore the very same style in the Fight For This Love video, and with Beyoncé and now Rihanna following in her fashion footsteps, La Cole is becoming quite the trend-setter. Who'd have thought it! But we're getting side tracked…

It's back to the matter at hand, as Rihanna had another costume change into eveningwear. She’s known as much for her dramatic style choices as her singing talents, and the decision to don this ivory satin gown by Stéphane Rolland shows us why. The cascading pleats and structured mermaid silhouette, which contours to the body then flares out at the knee, beautifully highlights the star’s womanly wiles and turns her into an elegant show-stopper for the Women of the Year event. We're loving those cute pockets for a quirky twist too. What a transformation!

It’s been a while since we’ve spotted Rihanna wearing a girly floor-length gown – let alone two in one night! Forget androgyny, this is feminine fashion through and through. Making a grand exit, the star continued to surprise us with her one-night fashion reinvention and looked captivating in a Grecian-inspired Jasmine di Milo S/S '10 draped dress with sexy side split to reveal her pins and a pair of pretty Louboutins. Et voila! Her style icon status is confirmed once again. Good work.
