David Koma: The comeback!

Beyoncé david koma

Well if anyone is giving Cheryl reason to ignore the fashion critics, it’s Beyoncé. After last week’s David Koma dress debacle as the world and his friend jumped onto Twitter, Facebook and every newspaper website to comment on how awful the Girls Aloud star’s dress was, she would be forgiven for appearing on this week’s X Factor wearing a super-safe and totally inoffensive (read boring) LBD. But Beyoncé appeared last night at the MTV European Music Awards in Berlin, wearing a dress that David had designed especially with the diva in mind. The design was similar to Cheryl’s, but with even more metal embellishment, and yet so far the British public hasn’t got their claws out about it – although we wouldn’t pick a fight with Beyoncé… The American singer is David’s ideal woman to wear his designs, and when we met him recently he revealed to us that Beyoncé really wanted to meet him and loved his work. Well the proof is in the pudding now isn’t it and David is delighted. 'I was very flattered that Cheryl chose to wear one of my dresses, it was a lovely surprise when I saw her! I am super excited that Beyoncé collected her award wearing the dress that I developed especially for her, she is an amazing personality and performer.' David was the winner of Vauxhall Fashion Scout's merit award this year, a title previously held by Christopher Kane and William Tempest, so we know we're not the only ones loving his work. Let’s just hope that Beyoncé’s seal of approval gives Cheryl the confidence to get back up on that fashion wagon, after all, the public who slated her sartorial choice are the same public that voted off Rachel, which was perhaps the worst decision of the series!

  • The way that Cheryl accessorised her outfit doesn't appeal to me. However, I love Beyonces dress! It looks fabulous with her body shape and I love the detailing on the sleeves and the odd neckline. Perhaps if Cheryl had worn simple courts and lost those chavtastic earrings I would have liked it a bit more.

  • I do like the David Koma designs...However the revised version of the black dress with metallic trim looks better on Beyoncé because B is curvier. On CC the cut-out version just looks like an Art Deco motif stuck onto an ironing board...

  • I adore both dresses. I think they look fantastic on both CC and BK. They encapsulate a 1920's architectural glamour. How I wish I could have one!
