10 best dressed from last night: sooo feminine!

camilla belle

Pastels, ruffles, bows and floor-sweepers: it was girly a go-go on the red carpet yesterday. And with some of our favourite designers represented, from Alexander McQueen to Prabal Gurung, as well as top high-street chain Lipsy, we were spoilt for choice when it came to picking our best dressed. But do you think the stars looked eek or chic? Vote accordingly.

Flirty ruffles

Camilla Belle kicked off the spirit of feminine fun in her futuristic frock from Alexander McQueen’s awe-inspiring spring/summer 2010 show. We’re glad she left the scary Armadillo python shoes at home and instead wisely opted for a pair of pretty ivory wedges to complement the dress’ aqua blue hue. One word: WOW! Over on British shores, X Factor songstress, Lucie Jones, also chose a short and sweet number for the premiere of A Christmas Carol in Leicester Square. She’s clearly been taking style tips from mentor Dannii Minogue because she created a perfect mix of delicately sculpted scallop hems on her Lipsy dress with a leather biker, strappy bondage heels and black nails to continue the rock chick vibe she worked so well on last week’s show. We reckon the Welsh beauty has found her fashion niche.

The ultimate cocktail frock

We knew it was just a matter of time before more A-Listers succumbed to the masterful powers of Prabal Gurung. After spotting Leighton Meester wearing one of his designs earlier this week, Thandie Newton also followed in Demi Moore’s fashionable footsteps by wearing this delectable dress with the same brush-painted rose design. But while the fussy bows threatened to overshadow Demi and Leighton’s frocks, Thandie’s is an elegant addition that serves to draw attention to her tiny waist. Drew Barrymore also turned to her fellow celebrities for inspiration and although her violet dress has previously been worn by Katherine Jenkins as well as the lady who designed it, Victoria Beckham, Drew managed to make it her own thanks to a silver brooch pinned across her chest and contrasting red lip for a quirky twist. Joining Drew at the premiere of Everybody’s Fine was Kate Beckinsale who looked simply stunning in her strapless minidress and beautiful blue YSL heels. Swoon! Liz Hurley followed suit with her off-the-shoulder frock as did Lady Gaga in Jean Paul Gaultier, proving that whether kept simple or adorned with statement jewellery, this is one style that won’t let you down for the festive season.

Maximum impact

Mischa Barton amanda peet anna friel

Although summer is long gone, our favourite celebrities are still turning to their trusty maxi dresses to bring some charm to the cold nights and these three ladies are the ideal showcase for variations on the versatile style. Whether you channel Mischa Barton’s hippy chic (minus the dry shampoo overload!) or Amanda Peet’s Grecian goddess look, a floor-length gown guarantees glamour, especially when the high waist and empire silhouette creates an instant figure flatterer. Take Anna Friel, who continued her own daily fashion show when she left London’s Theatre Royal looking rather ravishing in this sleek beauty with a sophisticated sheer yoke. Just fabulous daaahling!

  • O wow, Camilla Belle continues to amaze me! That dress looked so odd and alien-like on the catwalk but she transforms it into a feminine work of art. I'm in awe....

  • I'm so over Lady Gaga, she's just shock-factor overkill. Yawn!

  • Oh man, so much was wrong with the outfits here!!
Working top to bottom, Camille's dress was waay too pale with that tan, making her look dirty. The dress was a bit juvenile as well.
Drew's dress was too long for her, it should have been knee-length to compliment her figure and also her shoes look reeally weird! Probably just the angle, but I would definitely say that satin dress + satin shoes = no!! Did love the brooch though, very cool, and the red lippy was just perfect! Was quite disappointed about this though as normally I love Drew's style.
Kate Beckinsale's dress was too young for her. Too short and too 'booby'.
Well done to Liz for *almost dressing her age for once, if only she'd cover up her minging knees for once though!
And, finally(!), how does Mischa always manage to make everything she puts on look skanky? That dress is gorgeous, but on her...awful. For one thing she needs to cut off her dreadful hair and take it from there!
Best look: definitely Anna Friel. She looks classy, the red lips and parfait, and she looks sleek and sexy in the dress. Perfect!
