Last night’s best dressed: bring on the glitz!

Blimey, what a night it was! A whole host of stars from Lily Allen to Diane Kruger strutted their stuff on the red carpet in sleek gowns, cute frocks and some, well, rather odd choices (we’re talking to you, Amy Winehouse). Check out our faves here and let us know who you’re vying for....

These ladies were a cut above the rest thanks to their snipped-and-clipped black frocks. Hilary Swank chose a cut-out Monique Lhuillier dress to show off her enviable abs, Marisa Tomei’s sexy sheer panels flashed just the right amount of flesh - making quite the bold statement - and Kate Beckinsale flaunted her simple elegance in this one-shouldered Michael Kors sheath with pleated gathers. Her gleaming gold jewellery is the ideal contrast to add a glam finishing touch. Has she been taking style tips from her BBF, Mrs Beckham?

Charlize Theron, Carey Mulligan and Michelle Monaghan also know how chic an all-dark ensemble can be. They looked uber groomed in their strapless dresses, giving us a master class in the less-is-more approach if ever there was one! Carey pepped up her look with statement shoes, big bow and cool quiff, Charlize added a turquoise ring to compliment the same sparkling toe-capped Louboutins Estelle wore at the weekend, and Michelle? Well, she looks so polished, she almost shines! Old school glamour at it’s best.

zooey deschanel Diane Kruger julianne moore

Say hello to last night’s girlie girls! As soon as the nights draw in, everyone breaks out the black so what a breath of fresh air to see these lovelies bringing some light to the proceedings. Zooey Deschanel is fast becoming one of our fashion favourites and she nailed this cute Luella get-up with flattering high waist, empire-line silhouette and cute bows that create her trademark kooky edge. As for Diane Kruger, we’re a little bemused by this one. Her bizarrely bridal choice with flowing train looks less cool chic and more costume wear. And those ballerina-inspired pumps are certainly a surprising choice! Perhaps her stylist was having a (very rare) off day. On the bright side, Julianne Moore would make the perfect bridesmaid in her trend-ticking peach frock with structured bodice, puffy shoulders and waist-defining belt. It’s great to see her looking so fun and flirty but last week’s floor sweeping Bottega Veneta gown was far better suited to her colouring and sophisticated reputation.

Q Awards

pixie lott Fearne Cotton lily allen

For Pixie Lott and Fearne Cotton, the formula is simple: LBD+tights+glossy locks=awesome party look but each added their own personal twist: Fearne popped on a pair of leopard print ankle wedges by Ashish à la Whitney Port to add some fierceness to her Olivia Rubin dress while the feather shoulder detailing on Pixie's Gucci number kept her very on trend. Those bohemian-inspired floral hair pieces a top the sparkling mini dress seem a little out of place though... Lily Allen, on the other hand, deserves some love for going against the grain in this slouchy beaded frock over her wet-look leggings. Trust Lily to make a muff-style pocket a thing of beauty. Very forward thinking! Loving the cute collar and that shaggy hair do too.

  • Lily looks fabulous, would have looked perfect without the leggings! Fearne and Pixie look gorgeous, love their unique touches. Julianne kind of pulls off the peach look, but nobody else stands out that much at all!!

  • Thank god for the Brit girls, that's all I can say, cool, quirky, edgy and individual...the rest are just another red carpet, another frock...Zooey Deschanel looks the best of the rest but the shoes spoil what would have been a good look!

  • diane kruger!! i am ashamed of you! yes the dress is quite pretty in a floaty, bridal kind of way but the length is horrid and those shoes are a crazy choice!! for a lady who usually gets it spot on, what went wrong?!

  • I love Lily's hair and she looks gorgeous, though I think she could have ditched the leggings.

  • Marisa Tomei shows how a slinky number should be done. Kate Beckinsale looks too scary Stepford/Hollywood wife... Fearne C getting it so wrong in her cheeky waitress number (where's the tray of canapés to complete this look?) While Lily looks simply divine-she's the winner.
