Supermodel blues

It may be comforting to hear that even the most beautiful girls have an 'ugly day' once in a while, but we couldn’t believe our ears when over the weekend two of the most super duper models admitted to having insecurities. Cindy Crawford, '90s catwalk queen and bearer of that iconic beauty spot (that we maaay have tried to recreate with brown eyeliner), has confessed she ditched the runway because she felt inadequate next to younger models.

The 43-year-old (yes, seriously) told an interviewer: 'I don't want to stand next to a 20-year-old on the runway, even if people say you can still do it. It is like, "Why would I do that to myself?" It would just make me depressed. I am aware my body doesn't look the same way it did when I was 23. I actually don't want to feel that pressure.'

And even Claudia Schiffer, who looks breathtaking in the latest shots from the Chanel shoot in Argentina, admits she only feels sexy when she gets in front of the camera. The German supermodel confesses she was once called ‘the girl in the woollen underwear’ by an editor because she was so shy, and that: 'It was only once I was in front of the camera that I would cross the line and become sexy. When I'm on a photo shoot I'm not shy at all. I take my clothes off and strike very sexy poses.'

When ladies this beautiful are feeling insecure about their looks, what hope is there for the rest of us? [The Independent, Stylelist]
