Did you get a case of déjà vu when you saw Cheryl’s Saturday-night dress? If the white one-shoulder gown looked familiar, that’s because it’s the same dress Penélope Cruz wore to the Academy Awards in February this year!
The dress is another one-off creation by Atelier Versace, Donatella’s couture house, which means this was the exact same frock worn by Penélope on the night she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar (you’d think that a dress you’d won an Oscar in would have so much sentimental value that you’d keep it as a souvenir, but apparently not…)
Cruz had the whole Holly Golightly up-do thing going on when she wore the dress, whereas Cheryl opted for a sparkling hairpiece by red-carpet favourite Jenny Packham. Add in some small diamond hoop earrings by Stephen Webster (currently Chezza’s go-to jeweler), and cream suede platform courts by Casadei, and the overall effect was old-school Hollywood starlet. Too much for ITV primetime? Don’t be silly, darling.
On Sunday, Cheryl opted for another Julien Macdonald outfit (her much-discussed military dance outfit for her live performance was also designed by Macdonald). We think this power-shoulder mermaid-print micro-mini dress covered in giant pailette sequins is likely to spark as much debate amongst style watchers.
Meanwhile, the Welsh designer says Cole is a 'pleasure' to dress. 'I've been working with Cheryl for a long time, she's attended my shows and we've formed a friendship. She's an amazing style ambassador – a working, modern, down-to-earth woman. It's a pleasure to dress her’.
But even Julien has to tune in to see what Cheryl will be wearing – just like the rest of us; 'I never know what she's going to wear until I see it on screen. She is her own stylist and controls what she wears. She's a beautiful woman and always looks amazing. She's a joy to dress.'
You think that was short? Then imagine how tiny her Alexander McQueen birthday dress must have been, because (unlike her Sunday-night dress) that showed off the garter-strap floral tattoo around Mrs Cole’s upper thigh… Good to have some kind of guideline, eh Cheryl?
