The fashion world has excelled itself on celluloid of late. As if Lily Cole breaking the ‘model turned actress’ curse and enchanting audiences in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus wasn’t enough, Tom Ford may actually be nominated for an Oscar next year. That’s right: an actual Oscar. And maybe even three.
Nominations won’t be announced until 2 February, but industry insiders are already predicting that his directorial debut – A Single Man – could be up for awards for Best Film and Best Director, and that leading man Colin Firth is a shoo-in for Best Actor.
Those gazing into their crystal balls might also predict a nomination for Carey Mulligan's breakout turn in the (equally visually stunning) An Education, despite it being her first big movie role. We also see nods for Up in the Air, which comes from Juno director Jason Reitman and stars George Clooney; as well as for the harrowing Precious, based on the novel Push by Sapphire; and for Peter Lord of the Rings Jackson’s movie of the best-selling novel Lovely Bones. And now it’s our turn for a Grazia prediction: whoever the Academy pick, next year’s red carpet will be more stylish than ever.
