How to (nearly) blow it in fashion!

Making it in the fashion industry can be a tricky business. So when we heard a US teen magazine has launched an insider’s guide to a career in fashion, full of top tips from the best in the business including Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs, we just wished we’d had something like that to help us out!

After all, it’s pretty comforting to discover even the greats have had a bad day. Vera Wang admits to a few internship mishaps; 'There was a time where I put all of the furs on a Vogue shoot with photographer Deborah Turbeville into the water, and the entire fur industry wanted to sue me. Another time we ruined a Frank Stella painting… we were shooting at night and I remember watching a model jumping up and down in front of a work of art that fell apart. It’s hard to put a number on it, but that work of art was worth a quarter of a million 35 years ago. That’s probably $3 billion now.' And designer Rachel Royce confesses she should have Google-imaged the guest list for an event during a PR placement; 'I was to man the Marc by Marc Jacobs store, and I didn’t recognise Marc’s boyfriend and I didn’t let him in.'

Even Grazia Daily remembers tearing a designer dress or two and mispronouncing Karl Lag-er-feld a LOT in the early days…

  • Ah, I don't feel so bad about accidentally throwing Cat Deeley's diamond earrings in with a bag of Freedom bling after a cover shoot then (hmmm, actually that wasn't *that* long ago)
