Just when we thought he was going to start taking it easy, it looks like Giorgio Armani might be about to embark on a political career! The Italian designer, who just a few weeks ago told WWD he was planning on slowing down due to poor health, has been nominated for a position in the Italian Senate by none other than Santo Versace! Who knew the heads of two of
Santo, who is Donatella’s brother, is a member of the Italian Lower Parliament and wrote a letter to Italian President Napolitano with his suggestion, writing 'Armani is the best candidate to receive the nominee for senator for life. The image of our country would’ve been very different without Armani's success in fashion.'
The life-long senator position is highly prestigious and is awarded based on great scientific, literary, social or artistic contribution to the country. An incredible honour for the ailing 75-year-old designer, but to be honest, we reckon retirement on a desert island somewhere is surely more appealing! [Coco Perez]
