Who is the Diet Coke Fashionista?

Diet Coke's Fashionista puppet          Grazia’s Fashion News Editor Kay Barron

From the Anna Wintour-esque Edna Mode in The Incredibles to a (very-yellow) cartoon Linda Evangelista modelling alongside Marge Simpson in a ‘photoshoot’ in Harper’s Bazaar, and Giles Deacon’s latest muse the uh, Cadbury’s Caramel bunny (no really, see our current issue), cute characters have long been inspired by the world of fashion.

The latest to arrive on the scene is a puppet, not a cartoon. You too may have been enchanted by the delightfully catty fashionista puppet that appears in the Diet Coke idents that run before the new series of Ugly Betty, who declares a frilly satin dress “too fussy” before customising it with a blowtorch.

And who did genius ad agency Mother use for the inspiration for the sleekly-groomed fashionista with the glossy bowl-cut and aversion to fussy fashion? We couldn’t possibly comment….

  • I'd always thought that the puppet looks just like Katie from www.whatkatiewore.com (who also works at the Mother agency in London).
Katie was in the Grazia mag a few months ago - her boyfriend takes a picture of her everyday as a love letter. The puppet wears bright colours and bright red lipstick, just like Katie. What do you think?

  • Looks like it's more likely to be Katie than Kay. The puppet even has Katie's new haircut!
Although I'm not sure why it needs to based on anyone? It's only a puppet!
