Fresh from his success with dressing the PM’s missus, Sarah Brown – at her designer-jammed London Fashion Week soirée at 10 Downing Street no less, and again for her super-sleek appearance at the party conference last week - Erdem Moralioglu has now scored the big one – Michelle Obama.
Mrs O wore a ‘watercolour’ floral-print pleated skirt from Erdem’s current collection, teamed with her favourite wide studded Alaia belt and signature twin-set cardigan. The First Lady is well known for her love of cool, modern printed pieces, previously wearing patterned styles by young New York designers like Thakoon and Jason Wu. Erdem is known for his painterly approach to print and colour, and elegant ladylike tailoring.
Dressing Michelle Obama, who, thanks to the internet, is now as much of a global fashion icon as that other Mrs O from the White House, is a major coup for the young designer, and one that is likely to explode interest from store buyers around the world.
It seems the First Lady is getting into her Brit designers; she has also been spotted wearing a beaded patchwork top by London-based design duo Basso & Brooke. Previously, Brown’s only fashion recommendation to the US First Lady had been the clothing catalogue Boden. We think Erdem is a more worthy suggestion for the President’s wife.
