Last night's best dressed: Chanel chic

07 October 2009

The Chanel show is always packed with a stellar front row and judging from the array of outfits on display, it's safe to say that the celebs successfully added to the Fashion Week glamour. But Karl Lagerfeld sprung a surprise and invited his guests for a romp among the haystack seats that bordered his straw-strewn catwalk – here's hoping no one took a tumble! But what do you think of the stars' style choices last night? Don't forget to let us know below...

Apparently, monochrome madness has not only taken over the UK, it's now spread to France, where our favourite FROW-ers paid homage to Coco Chanel's passion for all things black and white. Rihanna certainly channelled Coco with her multitude of oversized costume pearls and cute hand muff, Claudia Schiffer referenced the legendary designer in a classic Chanel cardigan and, after belting out a few tunes on the catwalk, Lily Allen slipped on a tweed dress but added a cheeky twist with a pair of red stripe boots. Meanwhile, Leigh Lezark bravely broke the mould with a Chanel leotard over leggings and, although she looks a little like a circus act, she works it with confidence. The fact she's already dipped her fingernails into Chanel’s catwalk-inspired Jade nail polish adds an on-trend touch.

So you'd think that once the final show for the evening had wrapped, the fash pack would be so exhausted from all their FROW-ing in the French capital that they'd head straight back to bed for some beauty sleep. Surely they don't have the energy for another wardrobe change...

...Mais oui! The A-Listers partied on at the Fendi event, where new girl on the fashion block, Pixie Lott, was handpicked by Karl himself to perform at his pop-up club. And she shone in the spotlight thanks to a pretty pink number (by Fendi, of course!) paired with a Blair-esque headband that made for a ladylike look. Poppy Delevigne was also in attendance and dazzled in head to toe black, but Margherita Missoni was the outright winner in the glamour stakes thanks to this tiger-print pencil skirt and her take on the underwear-as-outwear trend.

Lily Cole

Elsewhere in the world, the Chanel chicness continued courtesy of our favourite Cambridge student. And although she's been sorely missed on the catwalk this season, Lily Cole proved she still wields fashion power when she walked the red carpet in this vintage Chanel gown for the London premiere of The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus. Her famously fiery hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail so all eyes were on the beaded floral detailing and those elegant tiers. Top marks!
