Gisele is made a UN ambassador

GISELE

Is Gisele Bundchen actually a superhero? Following news this morning that the supermodel may be taking flying lessons in between her pre-natal classes, we discover that last night she was also appointed a UN Goodwill Ambassador, in a swanky ceremony in New York City’s Washington Square Park.

Her latest role means that she’ll be, er, leading the fight against climate change amongst other things, but as time ticks by here’s hoping she won’t be required to lead any protests. We can’t imagine what a pregnant super would look like in Greenpeace gear.

Gisele is, quite rightly, very proud of her new role, saying “I have been working on environmental issues for a long time and agreed to become a goodwill ambassador to be part of a global and far-reaching organization,” the Brazilian-born beauty said in a statement. “Mother Earth is our fundamental life-support system, and by becoming aware and responsible now, we can assist in preserving the planet.”

Bundchen has been working on initiatives such as her Agua Limpia (clean water) project, which aims to reforest the vegetation along the river banks in the region where she was born.

And brilliantly, the UN will be depicting Gisele as a pollution-busting superheroine, in a web-based cartoon series called “GiGi and the Green Team,” that features Gisele as an "environmental heroine, aiming to empower girls to protect the environment."

So, yes, people - she looks like that and she is actually a beautiful person too; just deal with it. Sigh.

  • Uh, wow. Does no one see the glaringly obvious hypocrisy here?? She's taking flying lessons and being appointed a UN Ambassador to fight climate change? Last time I checked, flying is a CO2 intensive mode of transportation. Is Gisele's next step an airplane purchase? According to TMZ.com, that is, in fact, the case. Whether that's true or not, the flying lessons alone are enough to ask, what is this woman doing as a climate change spokesperson for the world and our youth? Why would an 'environmental heroine, aiming to empower girls to protect the environment,' partake in such a polluting activity? What in the world is the UN thinking?? Clearly, Gisele should take her own advice to be 'aware' and 'responsible.' Only then will she be seen as an environmental advocate and role model for the world. Right now, she looks like a joke.
