Alexa introduces her new Mulberry ‘It’ bag!

Alexa Chung

Uh oh. You know how we told you ‘It’ bags were over? Well maybe they’re back for next spring. Or one is at least – Mulberry’s Alexa. Just hours after the fairground-inspired Mulberry presentation yesterday, at least three individuals were heard calculating how long they’d have to wait before getting their hands on one. So why is it so great? Well, other than the fact it’s the perfect slouchy satchel, with just a nod to that other Mulberry classic The Bayswater, it’s also inspired by Alexa Chung. (Hint’s in the name!). ‘Inspired by and named after British style icon Alexa Chung, it reflects one of our major seasonal themes of schoolgirl naivety and effortless charm,’ say Mulberry. But what does the girl herself make of having a bag named after her? ‘It’s such an honour. I had no idea they were doing it until they presented it to me. I asked if I could get involved with the design process and they said no!’ she told us at the Mulberry party last night – toting the Alexa bag, of course. ‘I’ve always carried around a men’s Mulberry briefcase that’s totally battered and they’ve taken inspiration from that apparently.’ Our only problem is going to be deciding whether to get it in soft, buttery leather or in shiny leopard leather…

  • Alexa has been looking increasingly frail (putting it politely, inpolitely I'd say anorexic) since her move stateside. This picture looks nothing like her usual self. More on topic, becautiful bag.

  • I have to agree. The first thing I noticed about this photograph is how unhealthy Alexa looks.

  • Secod twinkles & iris' comments. Alexa looks frail, her head looks bigger than her body.

  • oh dear
I always admired Alexas quirky looks but sad to say she now just looks ill. Her arms are like my 5 year old daughters. It is so sad, why cant people just get over this dangerous size 0 trend.

  • "IT BAGS" were never over, I have been buying a fabulous louis vuitton fashion bag every season. It was a term people used as a result of the recession. If you could still afford IT BAGS, the media would make you feel guilty 4 buying one. Where there is fashion there will always be an IT BAG! OMG, Alexa is in need of a very big dinner!

on the size zero debate and comment if you feel strongly about it, im approaching a few mags and papers with the piece, and it seems like this dicussion group feels the same way.

  • She definitely looks too thin. Looks like the mulberry Alexa bag (http://leatherhandbagsblog.com/2010/03/mulberry-alexa-oak/) would overwhelm her now. I doubt she could even carry it off properly with such a thin frame!
