LFW finales day 2: the walk of fame?

20 September 2009

Mary Katrantzou

It might just be the buzz of excitement surrounding London Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary, but there’s definitely something afoot (ahem) on the capital’s catwalks this season. Yesterday’s shows kicked off with a bang as Mark Fast and Mary Katrantzou showed off their finest at the Topshop space, but as the show came to a close the final model took a tumble on her maxi-hem whilst joining the line up across the back wall. As if that wasn’t enough drama, Katrantzou then completely mistimed her entrance, poking her head round after most of the front row had stood up to leave.

Kinder Aggugini

Kinder Aggugini on the other hand, had one of the most spectacularly overblown finales we’ve ever witnessed. Starting with a pale flame-haired beauty sporting an embellished ‘Happy Birthday 25’ pinstriped vest, he sent his models out for the usual finale, before making them come out again for a second curtain call, while he did a long-drawn-out lap of honour around them, including ‘finger guns’ at various members of the audience. Hmmm...

To round up the day’s entertainment, Danielle Scutt did her usual shuffle-shuffle-while-hair-goes-a’swinging routine at the end of the catwalk, while Osman Yousefzada’s dramatic all-white collection was emphasised by the huddled congregation of girls at the back of the runway as he appeared in matching white to take his bow. Now we’re all for celebrating a bit of fashwan here and there (we’ll take the gratis bubbly any day thank you very much) but we’re kind of wondering what on earth will come next. Christopher Bailey taking the Olsen twins for a Strictly Come Dancing style spin on the Burberry catwalk come Tuesday night? Here’s hoping…
