LFW: new fashion dilemmas

20 September 2009

The outside world looks upon fashionistas as uptight, delicate little petals for whom a nail breaking is verging on end-of-the-world territory. How misguided. Ok, so ruining your manicure is annoying – but no fashion girl is worth her Alexander Wang heels if she can’t endure the pain that comes with wearing them for a 14 hour mammoth LFW day. And so, whilst jumping from one show to another we’ve stumbled across all the new season’s fashion dilemmas that the fash pack are struggling with. No one ever said it’d be easy…

Shoulder pads: We thought the shoulder’s only nuisance would be the FROW squeeze, but it turns out shoulder pads + shoulder bags are not a match made in heaven either. We’ve noticed deflated sad-looking shoulder pads out there already due to excess baggage being lugged around. Either go for hand held, or empty out all those goodies ladies!

Leather: Undeniably one of the major emerging trends this AW, everyone’s gone barmy for bondage, but think about the technicalities. Boiling hot fashion shows and leather-clad bums on seats means the embarrassing sticking and creaking when you get up kinda ruins that rock chick vibe you thought you’d nailed.

Statement necklaces: Gorgeous neckwear is being made utterly un-cool by the LFW lanyards we have to wear. Clash-a-rama.

Skyscraper heels:Whether stiletto or platform, those cobbles at Somerset House (LFW’s new HQ) are friend to no one. We’ve seen quite a few trips and wobbles – no one has stacked it quite yet, but it’s just a matter of time.
