It might be less than a week until his show, but considering we’re here live at Burberry HQ, we had to grab a chat with the creative director, Christopher Bailey. We found him amazingly upbeat and cheerful, considering…
GD: So how’s it going ?
C: We’ve still got so much to do before the show, you’re just always worried something will go horribly wrong, but we’ve been really focused so hopefully it will all go to plan….
GD: What are you most excited about ?
C: Seeing my family next Tuesday. They’re coming down for the show. They’ve never been to a show before; well, my mother and my sister came to Milan once, but now they’re all coming down – Mum, Dad and my sister.
GD: Will they get front row seats ?
C: Ooh, no, I couldn’t put them through the pressure of that! But no, they won’t be standing. They’ll get seats. Somewhere.
GD: We’ve been photographing all the Burberry staffers looking amaaazing in their rainwear. How many trench coats does Burberry’s creative director own?
C: I did have 11 or 12… but I just had a clear-out. So now, maybe 5 or 6.
GD: That’s not so many! What’s currently your favourite trench?
C: It’s a blue one, in an amazing, papery cotton. It’s got a red lining. It sounds bad, but it’s actually beautiful. I wore it this morning.
[And with that, he was off….]
C: I’ve got to get some Maltesers – that’s what you need; real sustenance! Do you want some?
[What a gent.]
