DSquared spill on their TV show

When we heard that the DSquared twins, Dean and Dan Caten, were shooting their own TV show in LA, we knew it would be our new cult trashy-telly addiction. And while we still don’t have a date of when it will be airing, we caught up with the bonkers brothers last week and they exclusively told us all about it…

On shooting in Hollywood
Dean: We were in LA for a month doing Launch My Line. It takes notable girls, maybe a DJ, an architect, the CEO of a company, who think they know something about fashion and want to produce their own line. We team them with local LA designers who can envision their vision. We give them a challenge each week.
Dan: And then they kill one another!
Dean: No, the winner gets their line produced and sold across America. The channel’s Bravo. We’re done with it now, and it airs in November when there’s no other reality shows about fashion. There was some conflict with Project Runway, which used to be theirs. So this is their answer to their own show.

On the move into TV…
Dan: It was a big push in America for us. I don’t think America is really aware of who we are and what we are about. What was interesting for the show was the idea of them having twin co-hosts. You can get two really great hosts but for them to work together is hard. We are easy. It’s natural. And it’s our field so we know what we’re talking about. We’d go and check up on the projects halfway through. And say ‘Really? Are you sure about that?’

On what’s next…
Dan: We can tell you who won! Now we’ll see if it gets ratings and then we’ll get another series and we’ll get a lot more money for it. No, the main thing for us was about getting visibility in America and letting them know we are about more than making jeans. It’s one of the biggest markets in the world and you have to conquer it. At the moment? We’re tapping it.
