I've just brought a check shirt similar to something Alexa Chung or Fearne Cotton might wear. I liked the colour and the fact it looks different from my work shirts but, now I've got it home, I'm unsure. At 32, should I be wearing something photographed on 20-somethings? Mash1977

There is no reason why you shouldn't, but you're right to approach with caution. The thirties are marginal territory where plaid shirts, pop socks and playsuits are concerned. You'll have to do a Drew Barrymore on this: spin a bit of downtown sophistication with dark-wash denim and a killer shoe.
