Mmm. This gorgeous pad is Yves Saint Laurent's beloved cliffside home in Tangier, Morocco, which is now up for sale, following the designer’s death last year. Christie's Great Estates gives details for Villa Mabrouka, or House of Luck, as an elegant five-bedroom home overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, with beautiful gardens, known as the Majorelle Gardens, surrounding the home.

As you would expect from the man who was arguably the greatest fashion designer of the twentieth century, Yves’s crib is fabulously stylish. It was decorated by renowned interior designer Jacques Grange, who combined traditional Moroccan architectural details like high arches and chequerboard tiled floors, with a modern twist, like the chintzy blue living room. Grange recalled, ‘Yves wanted chintz, with each room a single colour – a blue room, a yellow room. Algeria-born YSL loved hanging out in Morocco. He found the country and its clothes endlessly inspiring, claiming he often dreamed of its unique colours. The peaceful walled complex of Villa Mabrouka was a haven but, more than that, he found the relaxed and sensual lifestyle of Morocco a welcome escape from the uptight conservatism of Paris.

The legendary designer’s ashes are scattered in the Majorelle Gardens; his partner Pierre Berge declared that Yves ‘will stay there in a country that influenced and marked him greatly.’

Obviously, Villa Mabrouka may be slightly outside our price range. But, on a dull Wednesday afternoon in the office, we can dream…
