New label to watch!
We love how Jaeger has been transformed over the past few years from a super-conservative shop for ladies-who-lunch, to a rocking label showing Kate Moss-style shaggy jackets and star-print 170s blouses on the catwalks at London Fashion Week (see above). Fashion power player Harold Tillman – he’s also currently chairman of the British Fashion Council - is the man behind Jaeger’s transformation, having acquired the ailing label back in 2003.
So when Tillman starts taking an interest in a new fashion brand, the industry sits up and takes notice. Right now there are rumours he’s set his sights on checky mac company Aquascutum. And no wonder, the label has an impressive hertitage – everyone from Cary Grant to Sophia Loren and Dirk Bogarde have worn the (still) made in
macs. But our favourite Aquascutum pin-up is none other than Inspector Clouseau, who wore the label’s trench for all his Pink Panther capers. Could be the new name to watch, fashion fans… England
UPDATE! So you heard it here first, (yeah, we know about fashion shopping) and now it has been confirmed that Harold Tillman (along with Jaeger Chief executive Belinda Earl) is the new owner of Aquascutum. Take it away, Belinda: “Aquascutum is a world recognised brand, with an international footprint and numerous stockists around the world...We see further opportunities to build on Aquascutum’s rich and long history for outerwear and tailoring as well as for new product collections.”
