Praise be! Burberry is one fashion house that’s recession-speak-free – or at least is refusing to let the current economic woes deter them from making a triumphant homecoming to London Fashion Week. ‘It’s actually costing us a lot more to show here,’ Burberry’s creative director Christopher Bailey has revealed of the fashion house’s planned catwalk spectacular in September. ‘It’s the 25th anniversary, films are being made, art, theatre and design are buzzing, they’re planning the Olympics. London is the place to be right now. Am I nervous? No! It’s pure adrenaline. It’s my first London fashion show. The only other time my designs have been on the catwalk was when I graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1994.’ (Aside: how much do we want to see that show again now?) And aren’t we lucky Burberry is returning. We’re promised Anna Wintour on the front row, the world’s top models and the mother of all after-parties at the new London Burberry HQ. Oh, and we’d be putting 2 to 1 bet on a certain Emma Watson taking her place on the front row, too. So how is Christopher – the man who oversees every aspect of Burberry down to the canteen benches, remember – coping with the crazy build-up. ‘I’m organic in the way I think, but I’m rigid with diaries and planning, very German in my methods.’ The countdown begins… [Telegraph]
