9am news: find out who taught Carine Roitfeld to dress, PLUS meet the new model in town…

27 August 2009

French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld is well-known for being pretty much the most stylish woman on the planet. But it looks like she wasn’t always rocking the shaggy hairdo, rock'n'roll eye make-up and effortless cool. ‘It wasn’t until I started to work for Gucci in the '90s that it started to become clear to me. And that’s because Tom Ford was pushing me to do the dark eye make-up, to wear high heels and to keep things very simple and lean.’ Wanna come lend us a hand Tom? [Times]

Talking of high-powered women in fashion, Anna Wintour was spotted asking for ‘a more private table’ at a New York restaurant following her appearance on David Letterman. Managers were able to find her and her guest a more appropriate spot, from where Anna ordered an off-menu arugula salad with chopped apples.  ‘She looked annoyed, but you couldn't tell if it was because he was late, or if she was rattled by Letterman.’ [Page Six]

She can’t have been too annoyed though. With a new promo video for Fashion’s Night Out hitting the internet overnight, la Wintour is pictured in a T-shirt – yes, a T-shirt – to advertise the event. Pictured alongside SJP, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander Wang and Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs, the US Vogue editor even cracks a smile at one stage. Shock horror! [Huffington Post]

September Issue who? It’s not just magazine editors on screen at the moment. The Australian Centre For The Moving Image has just curated what it believes to be the first ever film festival dedicated to Marc Jacobs’ work as part of Melbourne Fashion Week. Okaaay…[WWD]

And finally, we know you can’t choose your parents but could the Delevigne family please stop procreating? 17-year-old Cara Delevigne has just been signed by Storm modelling agency, who also look after her supremely beautiful sister Poppy, the current face of Myla. Some things just aren’t fair. [Fashion Spot]
