It's funny how the high street brand New Look somehow manages to reflect the psyche of British females season after season. We are, of course, talking not just about the clothes (apparently NL is one of the most financially successful brands on the high street) but the girls they choose to promote their ranges. Two years ago, when Lily Allen mania was in full-force, they hired Lily to design a range. When Agyness Deyn was hotter than hot, they hired her to front the campaign for the GILES collection. Then Alexa Chung was the girl of the moment. She styled up their collection and starred in their campaign last season. So it was with a pleasant surprise when we discovered the new New Look girl is… Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud. ‘We always feature women who our customers tell us they like and relate to', said a spokesman for New Look. 'Lily Allen was one of the girls. Agy is the approachable supermodel and the way Alexa Chung styles herself goes down really well with our customers. And Kimberley Walsh is the girl our customer most wants to be.’ That Kimberley has a figure to rival Beyonce or J-Lo only adds to our pleasure, and confirms that the era of super-skinny is over.
