LFW’s newest star: week three!

19 August 2009

As part of London Fashion Week's 25th anniversary celebrations, Warehouse, Grazia, and the British Fashion Council joined forces in the nationwide search for the best of a new crop of British fashion talent. The winner was 22-year-old Ravensbourne College graduate Ruth Green. And with a London Fashion Week showcase in front of the world's fashion press to prepare for, she got straight down to work. Last time round, Ruth talked us through the whirlwind experience of her first week in the design process, and in today’s episode she shares the excitement of sending off her samples…

Day 20
Back in the office, I had a meeting with Lisa Byrne (design director) and Amelia (knitwear designer) to decide which of my sketches to take forward. Since then I have been doing specs and artworks ready to send off for sampling. I have also been doing some work with macramé for accessories, which was interesting.

The BIG news really is that samples are on the move!!! I just went and had a sneaky peak, and they are looking really good! Later on I’ll be meeting with Sue Vyse (brand director) and the knitwear team to look at each sample on a model and discuss which we will take forward. Also tomorrow we will have in-depth fittings of the chosen pieces before getting in touch with the supplier to give them a week to do the second round of samples. Can’t believe how quickly it all happens and how amazing the quality of manufacture is. It’s putting my originals to shame really!

We got our degree grades back last week. Well done to everyone from Ravensbourne, we are SO finished!!!

Check back on Monday for Ruth’s next installment.
