Sartorially speaking, singer Estelle has always demonstrated a penchant for fashion. Not to mention the 400 pairs of shoes that take up ‘90 per cent of my house'. And now that the industry has reciprocated her love of clothes following collaborations with Jonathan Kelsey, H&M and US designer Rachel Roy – their jewellery line is slated for release next Spring – the 29-year-old has revealed the inspiration behind her ever-changing looks. ‘When I started my whole thing, I was like, "I want to have a look"', she explains, resulting in an aesthetic which she describes as her "Audrey Pepa" style. ‘I think [Audrey Hepburn] is one of the classic beauties. And Salt-N-Pepa is just me and my outspoken, need-to-say-some-s--t side.' Not so anymore. After years in the music business, alter-ego Audrey has given way to the fondly named 'Minnie Tantrum', a label which alludes to the cartoonish voice Estelle adopts when she ‘takes the piss out of people' (we haven't asked about the Tantrum side yet...). Now regularly rocking sharp tailoring and draped jumpsuits, it's ironic that as her style has evolved she's opted for a more childlike fashion pseudonym, but then she reveals her top tip. ‘You shouldn't wear silks, satins, those kind of materials, 'cause once they start sticking and you start seeing sweat patches, it's the most unattractive thing on the planet.' Nice. [WWD]
