I want a fab winter coat. I am avoiding the sales so I can save up and be ready to pounce when the new ones come in. I want one that's really versatile - for work, days out and evenings. What should I look for? My budget is £300. Tammy G
I am reliably informed by my friends in fashion retail land that, where fabulous coats are concerned, the early bird gets the best. If you have your heart set on a key piece, you ought to have bagged it by the end of August. It's not like you won't be able to buy a coat in September, but you may not be able to buy the one you have set your heart on. Here are some of my favourites that are bang on trend but also classic enough to last - just make sure you get them before they go.
1. Shirt coat: £220, Isabella Oliver 365 (www.isabellaoliver.com). Tights from £4.49, www.tightsplease.co.uk. Ankle boots: £895, Christian Louboutin (020 7491 0033)
2. Trench: £269, BZR Brunns Bazaar (020 7499 1770)
3. Wool military coat: £355, Paul & Joe (www.my-wardrobe.com)
