Stone me, a size 8 model!
First it was Eliza Cummings, now it's Lara Stone. We're having a bit of a model moment here at Graziadaily, but it's not just us who are currently obsessed with Lara. After opening for Jean Paul Gaultier and closing for Chanel at last week's couture shows, Lara is the talk of the broadsheets and blogs. Who is this ‘woman' to take to the catwalks? After all, Lara is curvier than your average model, with buckets more attitude. There will be no graceful slinking for this one. Nope. Lara, 25, is more what you'd call a stomper. A stomper with a ‘face on'. But what a beautiful face it is. All gappy teeth, big lips and cheekbones, perfectly styled as Bridget Bardot at the JPG show. The Dutch model has been a regular in shows since 2006, but it has only been in the last year that people have taken notice. It could be because she's landing more campaigns, or it could be the matter of breasts. The shocker of the season is that Lara is a size 8! Not big in reality, but big in the world of models. In an interview last year, she said: 'I think it would be nice if I wasn't the only person with tits and an arse, but I am... I don't think I'm starting a trend.' Perhaps not a trend, but she's definitely starting a fan club.

Sample dresses usually come in a size 6/8 so I would have thought most models would have been that size also, non?
louF - I'm not quite sure what all the broo-ha-ha is about - she's a size 8, not 18! With over 45% of the population a size 14 oe over, she's hardly representative (or even anywhere near) the body shape of the average woman! It's a (miniscule) drop in the ocean - Even Sophie Dahl ended up shrinking to twiglet proportions!
mimmymum - size 8 and how tall? i'm 5ft11 and when i was a size 8 there was nothing of me but bones, not a curve in sight. if she's as tall as most models size 8 is like size 4 for someone petite like cheryl cole, kylie or posh so not really large is she!
vicki031 - OK, is she a 8 UK or 8 USA? Because as said above to be a model in the UK your dress size should be 6/8 so a UK size 8 model is hardly a revelation is it?
fashionrat - It is so scary that a size 8 model is considered bigger than the norm! If that doesn't encourage young girls to have eating disorders I don't know what will.
Lynds28 - Yes it's difficult to know whether to celebrate that she's slighter larger than the usual size 0 skeletons, or lament the fact that she's still several sizes smaller than the 'average' British woman. I guess if this represents the beginnings of a trend for models to look even slightly more 'normal' then it has to be a good thing. I wonder how Lara herself feels about it all?
AnnaJ - She looks amazing, radiant and vivacious. The 'normal' sized women should take a look at themselves and ask if they're really happy and Healthy at wearing a size 14 plus.
mindygal - Most models ARE an 8 (sometimes a 6). She is an american size 8, which is a UK 12.
