Yesterday Jean Paul Gaultier brought a slice of old-fashioned Hollywood glamour to Couture Week in Paris - complete with cinema ushers handing out choc ices, looks named after films and actresses, and even...Mickey Rourke (less of the glamour, but definitely Hollywood). Models including Lara Stone, Kim Noorda and even Erin O'Connor (who looked at home on the catwalk after a number of seasons off it), were trussed up with finger waves, lashings of cinematic red lipstick and nails, and smoky Bridget Bardot eyes. The film references flowed through the collection in jackets edged with film rolls, tights channeling the same ideas, and touches of sci-fi costumes came in big shoulders and sculptural body suits. The finale bride in a mini tiered gold and white dress had faces of famous Hollywood actresses, including Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, projected onto her own face as she delicately walked down the catwalk - with a little help from two assistants who held her hands. And in true Hollywood style, the paps went so mad for Mickey that he left his front row seat before the show began and stood at the back talking to fans.
