Manolo Blahnik doesn’t think shoes are that important

Manolo Blahnik

So shoe guru Manolo Blahnik doesn't consider shoes to be that important. Yep, that's right. The same Manolo Blahnik whose had such an impact on women's lives that Carrie Bradshaw was left sans rent in a particularly memorable episode of Sex and The City when she realised she'd over indulged on her favourite shoe brand. 'Are shoes so important? Really?' said the designer recently, 'If I was a woman, I would be dressed in the same thing for a month and just change my hat and gloves.' And it turns out Mr Blahnik's not that happy with the current shoe situation either, 'I hate these platforms that are all over the place today; they are all about grabbing attention' he said, 'I never do a platform. Well, I did, in the 1970s, but that was a bad experience.' [NY Mag]

  • And this coming from the guy who designed such massively high heels that his models had to take them off to walk in his catwalk show?! What WOULD Carrie say?
