Beth Ditto pulls in the crowds

01 July 2009

Fuel has just been thrown on the rumours that Sir Philip Green and Simon Cowell are going to create a British version of Disney. Because the gossip surrounding tonight's party – which Sir Phil is hosting for Beth Ditto's fashion launch at Evans – suggests the guest of honour (apart from Beth, obv) is Simon Cowell. Whaaaat? Simon Cowell and his high-waisted strides at a fashion party? There's a turn up for the books. Maybe an announcement is imminent. Not only is Simon in attendance, so is Kate Moss and a roll-call of designers including Christopher Kane, Roland Mouret, Louise Gray and Charles Anastase. Oh, and us, of course! We've been hearing all about what's happening this evening from party organiser extraordinaire and journalist Richard Mortimer (ex-BoomBox) from Ponystep.com, who has organised the bash at Sketch tonight. Our favourite bit of gossip is that Beth is expected to take over the PlayStation 3 Singstar booth, which was requested by the singer. We hear that both Kate and Beth are big karaoke fans, and personally we're hoping she sings Heavy Cross, the standout track from her new album, Music For Men. The party to launch her first fashion collection (see this week's issue of Grazia for all the pieces) would not be complete, of course, without the clothes. 'We asked London's East End's coolest-looking bigger girls to wear the collection,' says Richard. 'Beth insisted on it, saying she wanted the clothes brought to life, and not on mannequins.' Oh, and she wants 'big girl's food' too. At last, a party where we can eat our dinner! No hangovers tomorrow then...
