Anya Hindmarch gets personal

Anya Hindmarch

The waiting is over and, after weeks of speculation (we guessed her new venture was everything from a hotel to a beauty collection...), handbag wizard Anya Hindmarch yesterday revealed a new string to her bow – a collection of ultra-luxurious bespoke bags, leather goods and travel pieces.

Inspired by a wallet she created as a gift for her husband and had embossed with the message 'Happy birthday hairy' (charming!) – not to mention the overwhelming success of her 'Be a Bag' range that she launched in 2001 – Anya recognised a gap in the market for personalised pieces and has spent the last two years perfecting the collection. 'I have long been obsessed with bespoke products,' she told us. 'They are the things that really excite me and take me back to why I started my business.'

Our favourites from the collection of more than 100 pieces (all of which can be embossed with your name, a handwritten personal message or even a drawing) were the ingenious Two Way Journal, the beautiful Ultimate Bride Box – a fabulous mini trunk to store all those treasured keepsakes from your big day – and the travel Ebury bag (the last word in perfect hand luggage complete with pockets for all your travel essentials). As Anya put it, 'These are the pieces that you cherish and hand down to your grandchildren and talk about for years to come. It's about having your name on something, rather than mine.' The bespoke service will be available exclusively at the Pont Street store and online from early Autumn.
