There's a new ‘It' accessory amongst the New York fashion crowd. No, not a bag or even a bracelet - we're talking about an illegal DVD of The September Issue. Press preview screenings of the documentary, which followed US Vogue's Anna Wintour putting together the record-breaking September 2007 issue, have been so limited that bootleg copies of embargoed discs are now being passed around the industry. Those that own the coveted gems are hosting fashion screening parties at their houses in order to analyse the fashion spectacle. And we're not surprised. Having seen the film - at a hugely oversubscribed screening that even saw one esteemed member of the fashion press being forced to sit on the floor of the cinema - we can safely say it's a must-see when it goes on general release on 11 September. You get a real insight into Anna's motivation and drive, Grace Coddington emerges as a tortured genius and Andre Leon Talley is just hilarious. More when we're allowed to say more... But if you want to see the trailer, it's just leaked onto the internet here. [NY Mag, Yahoo]
