Christian Lacroix WILL show at couture week

Since Christian Lacroix filed for bankruptcy, there's been concern the man renowned for extravagant elegance won't be able to show at next month's A/W '09 couture shows. But, thankfully, Lacroix has confirmed he WILL be staging a ‘very small and simple presentation' on live models in Paris next month. The show will be put on for free – ‘it can't cost us a single euro' Lacroix said – meaning the models and staff are doing it for the love of the designer rather than pay. So although there's bound to be the usual exquisite workmanship, there's one thing you won't see: skinny models. ‘Very skinny women don't look beautiful in clothes. What I cannot stomach, because it evokes the war to me, is when you can see a woman's kneecap protruding in its entirety, skinny elbows, or a woman's chest bones. I won't tell you who they are, because it would be hurtful, but there are certain models I cancelled jobs with because they were too thin.' [WWD, Fashionologie]
