Fashion 118: Trend School

23 June 2009

I'm going to the Caribbean on honeymoon in September and am looking for a chic going away outfit that will be comfortable for the long flight, but also glamorous enough that the check-in desk may offer an upgrade! My cash-strapped wedding finances are already crying, ‘no more please'. But I don't mind spending a little extra on something I could wear again. Jayne MacArthur

Michael Kors, designer darling of the jet-setting New York smart set, swears that the secret of chic travel is in the two Cs: cashmere and cotton. You can just as easily overdress as underdress for an airport, so go for the new on-trend chinos or boyfriend jeans with a boat-neck striped tee. Add some boating shoes or ballet pumps and a summer scarf and you're sorted. If you want something more formal, go for this season's safari look. But remember, overdoing the fussy accessories is as unlikely to get you that upgrade as a shell suit.
