Fashion 118: Figure fixing dresses

I'd like to wear a dress for my 25th birthday, but I am a total pear shape. It's not so much my hips that are the issue but my thunder thighs. I love the '50s look, à la Katy Perry, but won't wear anything above the knee.

Twenty-five is the perfect time to do Dior. You don't have to shell out thousands, though - it's all about the shape: fitted at the top with a full skirt. When Dior launched its classic dress after WW2, fashion editors called it the New Look, but Americans called it the party dress. Go sleeveless if you want to show some skin, like Eva Mendes (above centre). This dress makes waists seem tiny (just look at Diane Kruger and Renée Zellweger) and the lower leg almost coltish. Heels are a must.
