Extreme heels: ‘towering torture chambers’

We're all familiar with the ‘no pain, no gain' mantra that applies to all things fashwan. Especially when it comes to those aesthetically pleasing and yet toe-curlingly painful platform sandals that you have to have, despite the fact the only pair they have left is one size too small. But with the extreme heels that the spring 2009 shows brought us - we're talking towering 13-inch heel-less booties at Nina Ricci and those infamous snakeskin shoes at Prada - it looks like even US Vogue's editor-at-large, André Leon Talley, has had enough: 'Designers with an obsession for towering torture chambers, often poorly designed for the well-being of the foot, must get a reality check. I, for one, am over the mania for the high, high heel. Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes.' Hmmm, wonder what Anna Wintour would have to say about that one André... [The Cut]
